Podcast: Why migration research should take race and colonialism seriously

In this podcast, Paige Livingston and Joona-Henrik Sneck, students at the Master’s programme in Intercultural Encounters at the University of Helsinki, discuss why migration research should take race and colonialism seriously. How do we imagine a “migrant” figure, and what meanings are hidden behind the notion of a “migration crisis”? What bordering practices does one need to navigate when entering Finland? Is the question of gaining employment as a foreign-born person connected to language skills only? In their podcast, Paige and Joona also discuss everyday bordering practices when entering and dealing with the university system as students.

Have a listen to this conversation during your coffee break! The podcast is part of the “Europe, Migration and Global Coloniality” course taught at the University of Helsinki.
